Intermidate acting
A
NPH: 1-2 hrs; peak 6-10 hrs; duration 12+ hrs
4
Q
Long acting
A
Detemir : 1 hr; flat; 12-24 hrs
Glargline: 1.5 hr; flat ; 24 hrs
5
Q
Why is glargline long acting
A
- Injection of an acidic solution (pH 4)
- Precipitation of glargine in SQ tissue (pH 7.4)
- Slow dissolution of free glargine hexamers from precipitated glargine (stabilized aggregates)
* *hexamers to dimers to monomers - Prolonged action
