Two-way Tables Flashcards
In the context of two-way tables, what is the Marginal Distribution?
The Marginal Distribution of one of the categorical variables is the distribution of values of that variable among all individuals described by the table. (percentage of men and women who think they’ll be rich)
Is found using row and column totals.
In the context of two way tables, what is a Conditional Distribution?
A conditional distribution of a variable is the distribution of values of that variable among only individuals who have a given value of the other variable.
There is a separate conditional distribution for each value of the other variable.
What is Simpson’s Paradox?
When an association or comparison holds for all of several different groups, but when the data are combined to form a single group, the association or comparison reverses.
