What is 2FA?
Two-factor authentication is an extra layer of security for your Apple ID designed to ensure that you’re the only person who can access your account, even if someone knows your password.

Trusted Devices
- iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 9 or later.
- Mac with OS X El Capitan or later.
- Apple Watch with watchOS 6 or later (Note: can’t reset)

Verification Codes
A verification code is a temporary code sent to your trusted device or phone number when you sign in to a new device or browser with your Apple ID. You can also get a verification code from Settings on your trusted device.

What happens after signing in with the verification code?
Once signed in, you won’t be asked for a verification code on that device again unless you sign out completely, erase the device, or need to change your password for security reasons. When you sign in on the web, you can choose to trust your browser, so you won’t be asked for a verification code the next time you sign in from that computer.

If you already use two-factor authentication, you can no longer turn it off . You can only unenroll within two weeks of enrollment.

Security questions are deleted after 2 weeks.

3rd party apps
You can generate app-specific passwords for 3rd party apps to sign in to Apple ID so Apple ID isn’t stored in the app.

Settings -> name -> Password & Security -> Tap Turn on Two-Factor Authentication

appleid.apple.com -> sign in -> answer security question -> continue at prompt to upgrade security -> click Upgrade Account Security -> enter phone number -> enter the verification code -> turn on two-factor authentication
