how was comedy used in each text?
how is disguise used in each text?
In both Twelfth Night and She’s the Man, women disguise themselves in male clothes and mannerisms to feel secure in the public setting, however, this disguise does little to hide the multitude of feminine qualities in their personalities. Though Viola is disguised as Cesario, the femininity inherent in her person is exemplified through the scene where Orsino comments on her rubious lip, “Diana’s lip / Is not more Smooth and rubious; thy small pipe / Is as the maiden’s organ, shrill and sound, And all is semblative a woman’s part.” This similarity is shown in She’s the Man when Viola disguises as her brother Sebastian. “You think you know someone and you realise it’s all been a big lie. Every touch. Every kiss”. This scene shows her feminine persona coming through the male disguise.
what scenes are most similar from play to film?
Throughout the text and film a friendship is formed between Duke Orsino and Viola who is disguised as Sebastian in She’s the Man and Cesario in Twelfth Night. Although Viola is pretending to be someone who she is not, the friendship between these two characters are very real. In Twelfth Night Orsino asks his court to stand away so he can speak to Cesario privately, showing that he can be vulnerable male to male and that he has formed a close relationship with Cesario. Similarly, in She’s the Man, Duke feels comfortable enough with Sebastian to talk about personal things. For example, after Duke confronts Sebastian on how he insultingly talks about girls, Sebastian says to him “You’re a really sensitive guy, aren’t you?” Duke proceeded “when I’m with someone I want to be able to talk about other stuff… stuff I can’t talk about with anyone else.” These two examples from Twelfth Night and She’s the Man show how authentic and true the relationship is between these two characters, although one of them is disguising who they truly are.

Explain what happened to Malvolio in the original text?
Maria forges a letter to Malvolio, supposedly from Olivia, suggesting that she loves him and he should wear yellow stockings and smile all the time. Malvolio does as the letter suggests, and Olivia thinks he has gone mad, so has him locked up. Malvolio is now locked up like a prisoner in a dark room in Olivia’s house. He is released at the end of the play.
