Neurological symptoms with hyperthyroidism
Insomnia and irritability
What is the name of the antibody which stimulates the receptor in Grave’s
TSH receptor antibody (TRAB)
Investigations with grave’s?
TSH and t3/4 (TSH will be low and t3/4 high)
Radioiodine- TSH is required to take it up (but the TSH receptor antibody will do the trick)
TSH receptor antibody test (TRAB)
Why isn’t the radioiodine taken up in thyroiditis
Because t3/4 is being released because of an inflammatory condition not because of TSH, so the radioiodine is not taken up
Eye signs in hyperthyroid
Periorbital oedema, conjunctival swelling (chemosis), conjunctival injection, exopthalmos, diplopia
Treatment in hyperthyroidism
Drugs (carbimazole, PTU)
Radioiodine
Surgery
Diagnosis in case 2
Hypothyroidism
Investigations for hypothyroidism
TSH (will be high) and T3/4 low
