Turning Points Flashcards
1
Q
What happens in the cathode set up?
A
A beam of electrons goes from the cathode and towards the anode.
2
Q
How are the electrons accelerated?
A
The high electric field (produced by the high voltage) ionises the gas inside the tube. Positive ions are attracted towards the cathode and strike surface electrons. Electrons are emitted and accelerated towards the anode.
3
Q
How can the beam of electrons be controlled?
A
With a magnetic and an electric field.
4
Q
Derive the electric force and magnetic force equation.
A
Electric Force = Magnetic Force
EQ = QvB
V = E/B
