TUMOUR OF SALIVARY GLANDS Flashcards
pleomorphic adenoma
gross
round, well-dermarcated, circumscribed
cut-surface that is gray-white with myxoid and blue translucent area with chondriod stroma
micro
epithelial elements resemble ductal cells arranged as irregular tubules with bg of loose myxoid and hyaline T containing cartilage islands
islands of well-differentiated squamous epithelium
Warthis tumour morphology
gross
round/oval, encapsulated, readily palpable
cut-surface is gray punctuated with narrow cyst
filled with serous secretions & frequently narrowed by polypoid projections of lymphoepithelial element
micro
double layer of oncocytic cells
innermost is columnar which also have secretory cells which secret secretion into the lumen
outermost layer is cuboidal
hv foci of squamous metaplasia
mucoepidermoid CA morpho
gross
circumscribed but no well-defined capsule
tumour infiltrates margins
plae, grey–white with small mucin containing cyst
micro
hv cystic configurations of intermediate cells…… hv squamous features and mucus–filled vacuoles
adenoid cystic CA morpho
gross
small, poorly encapsulated, infiltrative, gray–pink lesion
micro
small cells with dark compact nucleus with scant cytoplasm
tumour cells grow in cribriform pattern with space between filled with hyaine tissue that shows excess basement membrane
