Tuesday test Flashcards
MA’s must make the patients feel more comfortable with EMR’s
A medical assistant should educate patients about the benefits of EMRs who seem uncomfortable with it, even if it requires more time to do so
Your mother as a patient
Explain to your mother that only the physician can share her test results with her and that it would be a violation of policy to access her medical record without proper authority
EMR to avoid making errors
The EMR software usually has a built-in safeguard mechanism that alerts the prescribing physician to any contradicting medications that a particular patient might be asking this avoiding giving the patient meds that may cause them harm
List five things documented in the EMR
- ) Timestamps on recordings
- ) Prescriptions printed or faxed to pharmacy.
- ) Patient education information given to the patient
- ) Digital photos of the patient
- ) Patient condition
EMR’s make information confidential
EMR requires all users to have their own passwords to access patient medical records. This makes it possible for the software to track every entry or deletion and who made it, helping to keep patient information secure.
X-rays
- In a paper based system, physician must review the paper medical chart along side the physical x-ray.
- In an EMR the physician may view the x-ray within the EMR, from any computer terminal with the facility
Paper based EMR
- The conversion from paper to EMR format is typically done over a period of time
- Some medical offices use a scanner to scan documents from the patients paper medical record to the electronic record.
EMR’s gaining momentum in the 2000s
This is due to greater understanding of technology and a desire to make healthcare safer and allow for efficient team communication.
Medical offices that have converted
And office using in EMR should either shred or store any paper documents that are related to patients once they have entered the info into the EMR.
Participating in training
All members of the medical office, from MA’s, to nurses, and physicians, should participate in training on the EMR
