Q

reabsorption and secretion

A

-reabsorption is the moevement of filtered solutes and water from lumen, through the cell, into the interstiital space then into a capillary. regulated to maintain homeostasis
secretion: movement of SOLUTES only from circulation across epithelial cell into lumen of tbule.
-secretion is another mechanism besides filtration that allows solutes to be added to tubular fluid and excreted into urine
-solutes are SECRETED, but water cannot be secreted. we increase secretion of water by decreasing water deabsorption
Renal handling of solutes not made in the kidney:
excretion= filtered + secreted - reabsorbed all in moles/min
