Immunisation is
recommended in the UK for
A
- New entrants from endemic areas, if
unvaccinated and under 16 or under 35
from area of incidence > 500/100,000
• Health care workers in at risk areas, if
unvaccinated and after Mantoux
• Contacts of active TB cases
• At risk of TB (workers in prisons,
homeless hostels, visiting endemic
countries for > 1 month) - BCG vaccination for neonate at increased risk
of TB should be discussed with the parents or
legal guardian:
– in areas of UK where annual TB incidence
>40/100,000
– with parents/grandparents born in a country where
annual TB incidence >40/100,000
– Same for child up to 16, after negative Mantoux
• Primary care organisations with a high
incidence of TB should consider vaccinating all
neonates soon after birth.

in high incidence countries
A
All neonates (even if possibly HIV positive,
then follow up for signs of disseminated BCG
TB)
• Infants exposed to infectious TB case shortly
after birth, give 6/12 IPT before vaccination
• Protects against leprosy and Buruli ulcer
