Impetus
A driving force; something that makes something happen or happen more quickly.
Cumbersome
Large or heavy and therefore difficult to carry or use; unwieldy.
Taut
Stretched or pulled tight; not slack.
Rucksack
A bag with shoulder straps, used for carrying supplies or personal belongings.
Hearsay
Information received from other people that one cannot adequately substantiate; rumor.
Jingo
A person who is extremely patriotic, often to the point of aggression or warlike behavior.
Insubordinate
Defiant of authority; disobedient to orders or rules.
Vivid
Producing powerful feelings or strong, clear images in the mind.
Reticence
The quality of being reserved or uncommunicative in speech.
Ambiguity
The quality of being open to more than one interpretation; inexactness.
Euphemism
A mild or indirect word or expression substituted for one considered to be too harsh or blunt.
Drudgery
Hard, menial, or dull work.
Ominous
Giving the impression that something bad or unpleasant is going to happen; threatening.
Ritual
A religious or solemn ceremony consisting of a series of actions performed according to a prescribed order.
