TTT Strength Flashcards
Key concepts from the Training Think Tank Strength Course
What are the two types of fatigue
Central fatigue, and Localized fatigue
What are the characteristics of central fatigue
Occurs in the brain and spinal cord. Causes are unclear but metabolic byproducts or change in neurotransmitter levels are possibilities.
What are the characteristics of localized fatigue
Occurs in the muscle dur to decreases in fuel sources like glycogen and phosphates.
What are the two types of influences that fatigue has on the body
Direct and indirect
Describe indirect influences of fatigue
Altered movement patterns, diaphragmic stability decreases, decreased motivation, decreased joint stability, overheating, fatigue, and post training crash.
What considerations are there when designing the structure of training
Movement selection, weekly structure (template), movement order, strength endurance, fatigue resistance.
What are the steps of the new client assessment process?
Consultation, Needs analysis, Movement screening, Sport specific analysis.
What are the goals of movement screening?
Determine what can be trained safely, characteristics to prioritize, determine starting point for training.
What are the layers of movement screening?
Movement availability, isolated muscle function, integrated muscle function, produce and sustain force
What are the pillars of coaching?
Knowledge, practice, experience
What is the FIVES method?
Freedom, intensity, variability, endurance, self mastery
What are seven individual factors that make a client/athlete unique?
Confidence and self talk, genetics, training age/history, personality type, motivation, biological age, past injuries
Describe characteristics of direct fatigue
Stem from physiological processes, including CNS and localized muscular fatigue
What are the pieces of the strength assessment hierarchy?
Movement screen, technical analysis, base strength assessment, combo strength assessment, sport specific assessment
What are the two pillars of effective coaching?
Program design, guiding the athlete/client
