What is the TFPC?
Track Force Protection Coordinator
- Wears blue hat
- Assesses and implements Track Force Protection arrangements.
Describe Train Directions?
Anything travelling towards FFS is an “UP” service
Anything travelling away from FFS is a “DOWN” service
Imagine Finders St at top of hill

What is Sighting Distance?
Minimum distance required based on line speed:
Inner suburban - 455m
What is Safe Approach Distance (SAD)
For people - 2m
For plant - 6.4m
What are the 3 basic pieces of information you need to provide in Radio Comms?

Reactive Track Access Request Form
What is the purpose of:
1. Rails?
2. Sleepers?
3. Ballast?
- Rails - Guides the wheels
- Sleepers - Distributes weight and keeps gauge
- Ballast - Provides drainage and support
What is an Automatic Train Stop
When a signal is at STOP the trip arm is raised. If a train irregularly passes a STOP signal the trip arm activates the trains brakes.
When can a mobile phone be used in the Rail Corridor?
- For Fault Finding
- In an emergency
You must be in a POS

What is the Catenary Wire?
wire suspended between stauncheons that supports the contact wire.
(Looks like a suspension bridge)
What is the Contact Wire?
Large single strand copper wire suspended from the catenary wire by droppers.
It’s what the trains pantograph makes contact with
What are the Droppers?
They suspend the contact wire from the catenary wire.
What wire are between the Catenary and Contact Wire that conduct electricity
Dropper Feeders - they have a curl in them to allow for movement
What are steady arms?
They hold the contact wire in position from the Stanchion towards the centre of the track. They provide the stagger in the overhead to prevent excessive wear on the Pantograph.
What is the safety device that trips the circuit when a fault occurs?
Spark Gaps
They are wires that feed into the base of Staunchions
What are the 3 different types of section insulators?
- Fibreglass
- Porcelain
- Wood
What provides Staunchions with stability?
Guy wires
Anchors
What controls tension to the Contact Wire
Tension Structures
- Spring Type Tensioner
- Weighted Tensioner
What is the star shaped sign called?
What does it indicate?
Terminal Stop sign
It is 15m from the point where a pantograph would leave the contact wire.
You must stop at least 3m prior to the Terminal Stop sign.
What information do you provide when reporting an Incident?
- Identify yourself, TDN, Destination-Origin
- Location
- Describe situation
- Indicate the urgency or the response
required - Identify the immediate hazards
What do you do when there is a Rollingstock Fault?
Report to Train Control at Metrol
Fill in a Train Malfunction Message (TMM) and transmit details to TC
