effects of tropical cyclone
strong winds (squalls)
Tornadoes
Rainfall and Flooding
Storm surge
. The surface wind increases in magnitude and is maintained over a time interval of several minutes to half an hour. The increase in wind speed may occur abruptly or slowly. These changes in near landfall can lead to loss of lives and large damage to properties.
Strong winds (squalls)
. These are produced by tropical cyclone characterized by a violent and destructive whirling wind accompanied by a funnel-shaped cloud.
Tornadoes
. associated with tropical cyclone is both beneficial and harmful. contribute to the water needs of the areas traversed by the tropical cyclone. The are harmful when the amount is way too large as to cause flooding.
Rainfall and Flooding
. This is an abnormal rise of water due to tropical cyclone and it is an oceanic event. These devastating occur along coasts with low-lying terrain.
Storm surge
parts of a typhoon
eye
eyewall
rainbands
outflow
is the center of the typhoon and is typically 20-40 kilometers (12-25 miles) in diameter, though it can be larger or smaller.
The eye
The eye is characterized by
calm winds and clear skies compared to the intense conditions surrounding it.
Why the eye Matters:
Despite being the calmest part of the storm, it is a dangerous sign of how intense the surrounding storm can be. People sometimes mistake the passing of the eye for the end of the storm, only to face the intense winds from the other side of the eyewall afterward.
is the ring of thunderstorms that surrounds the eye.
The eyewall
