Tsk 7-Social robotics, affective computing, human-robot interaction, cyberpsychology Flashcards
Discrete theory
Limited number of core emotions that are biologically determined (everyone has these)
Dimensional theory
Emotion are not discrete and have no biological basis; they are continuous
Appraisal Theory
We make evaluations about our body / mind states (Form of reasoning)
Situation => Appraisal => Emption => Action
Emotions provide an appraisal summary of our environment and internal state (represents our problem solving + readiness to solve problems) with help of somatic markers (of body and mind)
Computational perspective
emotions arise from brain /body computations:e.g. sensory inferential population coding of sensory stimuli
Judgement + neurological assessment of bodily reactions
(emotion = neuron population with connection to glands; sensory systems…)
ITERA: observing features of a situation (accident) predicts a reaction
HOTCO: each unit has a valence (activation) representing the emotional value (feeling)
Prob: both implausible at a neurologica level. Solution:
GAGE: a) cognitive aspects of judgement & appraisal (PFC)b) amygdala physiological input (fear; learning)
Emotion and Adaptation Model
EMA
EMA takes appraisal theory stance to formulate a computational model.
takes into account the person environment relation, the appraisal-derivation process, emotion derivation and affect consequences
Person-environment relation: explicit agent-environment relationship; serving as both input and output of appraisal processes.causal interpretation of current reality (SNAP SHOT)
Appraisal-Derivation: all causal interpretations following are appraised separately, simultaneously, automatically
Emotion Derivation: Adaptive function of coping is inflluenced by current mood state
Emotion Derivation:
Emotion Derivation: Adaptive function of coping is inflluenced by current mood state
social robotics
Focuses on developing systems that are intelligent in their interactions with people in human environments
Theory of mind (ToM)/Mindreading: ability to attribute mental states (e.g. beliefs, intents, desires, feelings, knowledge, etc.) to oneself & to others, & to understand that these mental states can be the cause of and explanations of behaviors
The ability to share (and learn how to share) attention
Imitation has also been identified as a precursor
Perspective taking abilities
Personal robots need an analogous competence to skilfully think about, relate to, and coordinate their behaviour with humans over a wide range of real-time, real world social scenarios + make predicitons
False belief: to recognize that others can have beliefs about the world that are wrong or different from one’s own
Leonardo: social robot interacts in real-time with a human partner
slips and lapses
- SLIPS AND LAPSE: ERRORS COMMITTED IN FAMILIAR SITUATIONS; RIGHT PLAN BUT WRONG EXECUTION
mistake
MISTAKES: ERRORS COMMITTED IN UNFAMILIAR SITUATIONS;
CHOOSING THE WRONG PLAN
affective computing
the computational process that underlies affection
Gage
emotional decision making model , uses distributed representations of stimuli and associated emotions , models those in systems corresponding to brain areas
psymate
asks different question several times a day to monitor patients
social robotics
autonomous robot ThaT interacts & communicates with humans AND OTHER autonomous physical agents by following social behaviour and rules attached to its role
