TRUNK/DIAPHRAGM MUSCLES Flashcards
Rectus abdominis
Flexors of trunk
Abdominal mm (3 different layers):
2 obliques (external and internal)
1 transverse (deepest)
2 obliques (external and internal)
Flexors, lateral flexors, and rotators of trunk
Aorta
Arterial blood coming from heart
How is the diaphragm innervated?
Innervated by phrenic n (C3-C5 levels of spinal cord)
If damaged (even above), cannot use diaphragm
Inferior vena cava
Returns to heart (venous blood)
What do all 4 abdominal muscles do?
Can increase intra-abdominal pressure (during defecation, urination, parturition, loud singing, etc)
What does the diaphragm separate?
Separates thoracic and abdominal cavities
What happens to diaphragm during exhalation phase of respiration?
Relaxation of diaphragm
What happens to diaphragm during inhalation phase of respiration?
Contraction of diaphragm
Brings central tendon down to increase volume of thoracic cavity
What is the diaphragm?
Chief muscle of respiration
