Q

The patient in the above scenario has polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), which has an increased risk of cardiovascular disease and endometrial cancer. In PCOS, patients have an increased risk of developing diabetes mellitus, obesity, dyslipidemia, and metabolic syndrome, which can predispose them to cardiovascular disease. In addition, in PCOS there is unopposed estrogen secretion which can lead to endometrial stripe thickening and subsequently, endometrial carcinoma. It is very important to identify PCOS and treat to help to prevent the long-term risk factors for endometrial cancer and cardiovascular disease.
