Truck Driver Flashcards
Business District setbacks from curbs
10-12 feet
Short Jacking Operations
If one side is short jacked, you cannot work off the short side, only the full side
If both sides are short jacked, one can only raise and lower out of cradle
Short jacked side needs to be extended far enough to remove pins and insert them
Outrigger Deployment Ops
Extend both stabilizers on one side
Extend both stabilizers from other side
Low side: move stabilizers down to unload suspension or 2 degrees past level
High side: move stabilizers down to unload suspension
and bring to level
Ensure front tires have contact with ground with slight
bulge
Ensure all 8 green lights are on
Pin Stabilizers
Aerial Operation Speeds
Turtle - will always operate without high idle
Normal - will operate in high idle if 2 functions are being used
Rabbit - will always operate in high idle
Aerial Controls (at tip)
Red momentary switch (remote aerial master) dead man engaged
Tip controls are 33% slower than pedestal controls
RAMP system applies
Rider must wear truck belt and secure himself to laces of ladder (not rungs or K braces)
Feet must be on pads
No leg locking
Rider is not to extend or retract the ladder if foot pads are within 10 feet of upper mid bed
Ladder Overloading
Load Minder shuts off at 45 degrees
Amber lights on bed section will flash and alarm will sound.
Operation to correct:
1. Remove or reposition ladder occupants
2. Retract ladder sections
3. Slowly increase ladder elevation
Bedding the Aerial
Ensure water supply shut off
Open the main drain
Raise, Retract, Rotate, Lower
Walk the ladder before bedding
Walking the ladder
Mushroom Switch OFF
Ensure roof ladder, pike pole, axe are secure
Ensure nozzle is opened, centered, up and on a stream pattern
Ensure standpipe gate valve is closed
Ensure waterway is fully pinned to desired fly section
Check cables, pulleys, communications equipment
Emergency Power Unit (EPU)
Operates off battery power
To be used in lieu of PTO, if PTO fails
Should be operated once a week
Run for a period of 30 mins, then 30 mins cool down
Rear Stabilizer Control Hatch (with EPU)
For stabilizers
“Multiplexed” switch that is powered by electronic computer
When used with rear stabilizer controls all safety envelopes are still being utilized
Turntable Pedestal (with EPU)
“Multiplexed” switch that is powered by electronic computer
When used with pedestal controls all safety envelopes are still being utilized
Hatch behind drivers side access ladder (with EPU)
For Ladder and Stabilizers
“Hydraulic” switch is hardwired to battery and hydraulic system
If the electronic “multiplex” system has failed, the EPU switch is the hatch behind the drivers side aerial access ladder will be the only one functioning
*When used with hydraulic override valves on turntable and side access hatches the aerial operates with no safety envelopes
Global/Manual Overrides
Three Total:
Global Override
Stabilizer Manual Override
Ladder Manual Override
Global Override (rear stabilizer control hatch)
Will bypass all safety envelopes in “multiplex” system
Used to get out of trouble only
When in use, “multiplex” records conditions of all sensors to hard drive
Manual Overrides
1 for stabilizers (behind driver side access ladder)
1 for ladder (in turntable)
If either hatch is opened an alarm will sound and message will appear in command zone
