Troubleshooting I Flashcards
Basic troubleshooting hardware issues
What steps would you take to troubleshoot a computer that won’t turn on?
Check the power cables and ensure they are plugged in, verify the power supply is on and voltage selector is correctly set, inspect the cables for damage and try a known good cable, check internal components if external checks are fine.
Can you explain the process of installing a new printer on a network?
Connect to the print server and add the printer, ensure correct drivers are installed, print a test page to verify functionality.
How would you handle a situation where a user’s computer is running very slowly?
Open task manager to identify resource-heavy processes, determine if hardware upgrades or repairs are needed.
How would you deal with a user who cannot connect to the Wifi?
Ensure they are connecting to the correct network, check if they are receiving a DHCP address, check network settings, updating network drivers.
What steps would you take to remove malware from a user’s computer?
Identify the malware and its location, delete the infected files and any associated support files, use hospital-provided antivirus tools to assist.

Explain how you would handle a situation where a user forgot their passwords.
Guide the user through the password recovery wizard, if necessary escalate the issue to the Sysadmin department for password reset.
What is the difference between a patch and an update? How do you mange these in a hospital environment?
A patch fixes specific issues or vulnerabilities, and update may include patches, new features and improvements.
Ensure patches and updates are tested before they are deployed to avoid disruptions, schedule updates during low-usage times to minimize impacts.
How do you ensure data security and privacy when working with sensitive patient information on computers?
Use strong passwords and lock screens when not in use, install privacy screens and limit software and services to critical ones, follow security policies and best practices.
How would you handle a situation where a user’s application is crashing frequently?
Check for error messages and revie application logs, ensure the application and Windows are up-to-date, reinstall the application if necessary and check for compatibility issues.
Describe the process of setting up a new workstation for an employee?
Ensure all peripherals are connected and functioning, install necessary software and configure user accounts, ensure network connectivity and access to required resources, walk the user through logging in and basic workstation operations.
What steps would you take to diagnose a network connectivity issue on a desktop?
Check if the network cable is securely plugged in on both sides, verify the computer is receiving and IP address, ensure there is not static IP conflicts and check network adapter settings.
How do you manage software installations and updates across multiple computers in a hospital?
Test updates and software on a few machines first to ensure compatibility, schedule installations and updates during off-peak hours to minimize disruption, use deployment tools like SCCM or WSUS to automate and manage updates.
What would you do if a user is experiencing issues with their email client?
Verify the user is connected to the internet, check email client settings and ensure correct server information is configured, verify user credentials and check for account issues.
