How do you fix partition errors?
right click and select Extended Volume, do not delete data
What makes a drive unable to hold data?
Failing to format it
Formating errors
Windows in drive: “is not accessible”
from C:> prompt: “Invalid media type”
Can corrupt files create the invalid media error?
Yes
What does the error “Trying to recover lost allocation unit” mean?
When drive makes bad sounds, it means that there is a block or cluster (allocation unit)
What happens when a new drive gets a lot of “Trying to recover lost allocation unit” errors?
Its means that the drive is dying and needs to be replaced.
Who reports bad clusters?
S.M.A.R.T.
If drive isn’t in UEFI, what else could be wrong?
check the data and power cables
What can cause data corruption?
Power surges, accidental, shutdowns, corrupted installation media, viruses, hundreds of other problems
What are Windows error messages for corrupted files?
“The following file is missing or currupt?
“The download location information is damaged”
“Unable to load file”
“…is not a valid Win32 application”
“Bootmgr is missing…Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to resstart”
“Your PC ran into a problem…This problem caused your PC to restart”
“This app can’t run on your PC”
What are some core errors at boot?
“Error loading operating system”
“An error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data”
What do you do when you see a core error at boot?
run the Error checking utility
What happens if the error checking utility doesn’t work after seeing a core error at boot?
drive has too many bad blocks, may need to be recycled
What constantly checks the drive for bad blocks?
built-in error correction code (ECC)
What do you do if the ECC finds a bad block and gives you a corrupted data error?
Use Disk-checking utilities to fix the problem.
What are common hard drive dying problems?
Extended read/write times.
Drive works properly but making noises
Drive dissapears.
What does this error message mean? “Bootable Device Not Found”
Drive died and your OS is locked up.
