Already have words and structure - people are upset they can use familiar words so this could comfort them

Asking god for help and also acknowledging them for complete dependence on god
Asking for forgiveness
God is in the position authority and that the person praying is humble to god
Shows respect or the authority of god.

Ancient form of music unaccompanied sang in Latin
Came to focus after 1960’s
Should be sung instead of said
