Trigonometry Flashcards
Formation of an angle
An angle formed when a ray is rotated about a fixed point called the vertex
Standard position
When the vertex is at the origin the initial atm lies on the positive x axis and the terminal arm can be in any of the quadrants
Terminal arm
Arm that rotates
Initial arm
The arm that is fixed
Positive angle
An angle formed by a counter clockwise rotation of the terminal arm
Negative angle
An angle formed by a clockwise rotation of the terminal arm
Coterminous angles
Angles that share the same initial and terminal arm
Principal angle
The angle between 0 and 360 degrees
Related acute angle
Angle formed by the terminal arm of an angle is standard position and the x axis
Identity
Equations which are satisfied for all values of the variable for which they are defined
