Trigonometry Flashcards
sinx
O/H or O divided by H
O = length of the leg opposite the angle
H = length of hypotenuse
cosx
A/H
A = length of the leg Adjacent to the angle
H = length of the hypotenuse
tanx
O/A
O = length of the leg Opposite of the angle
A = length of the leg adjacent to the angle
S O H
Sin is Opposite over Hypotenuse
C A H
Cosine is Adjacent over Hypotenuse
T O A
Tangent is Opposite over Adjacent
Purpose of Trigonometric Ratios
Allows us to solve a right angle if:
1. we know the lengths of the two sides, then we can find the measures of its two acute angles
2. If we know the length of one side of the right angle and the measure of one acute angle, then we can find the lengths of the remaining sides
The leg of a triangle that is vertical from the right angle?
Opposite of the angle
The leg of a triangle that is horizontal from the right angle?
Adjacent of the angle
The leg of the triangle that is diagonal from the acute angle x
Hypotenuse
