recurrent paroxysms of unilateral face pain in 1+ division of the TN, with no radiation beyond
PAIN: lasts fraction of a second/2 mins, severe intensity, electric shock/stabbing/sharp
precipitated by innocuous stimuli in the affected distribution

MS- MS plaque in trigeminal root entry zone
space occupying lesions- arteriovenous malformation

A
masks like face, older, appearance of excruciating pain
all pts get MRI

A
carbamazepine, oxcarbazepine, lamotrigine

gabapentin, pregabalin, phenytoin, baclofen

microvascular decompression
only consider when approaching max tolerable pain or younger pts
