Trigeminal nerve quiz Flashcards
Where does V2 enter and through what?
pterygopalatine fossa through the foramen rotundum
What type of information does V2 carry?
Sensory only
name the four branches of the maxillary division
middle meningeal nerve, zygomatic nerve, ganglionic branches(2-3), & the infraorbital nerve.
Where does the middle meningeal n. exit, what does it supply?
- round foramen
- middle cranial fossa
where does the zygomatic nerve enter the orbit through?
inferior orbital fissure
what does the zygomatic nerve give rise to?
a communicating branch, zygomaticotemporal nerve, zygomaticofacial nerve
what does the communicating branch carry?
postganglionic parasympathetic fibers from the pterygopalatine ganglion to the lacrimal gland
What do the ganglionic branches carry?
sensory info from the upper pharynx, nasal cavity, and palate. through the pterygopalatine ganglion to the maxillary division.
how do preganglionic parasympathetic fibers reach the pterygopalatine ganglion?
from the facial nerve by way of the greater petrosal nerve
How does V3 get in the infratemporal fossa?
foramen ovale
What does V3 carry?
sensory and motor
what two branches of V3 are given off in the infratemporal fossa?
reccurent meningeal branch(nervus spinosum), and medial pterygoid nerve
what does the reccurent meningeal branch re-enter the cranium through?
what does it carry?
- foramen spinosum
- sensory from dura of middle & anterior cranial fossa, & calvarium
what does medial pterygoid n. supply?
what does it give rise to?
- motor to med. pterygoid muscle.
- fibers that pass through otic ganglion & supply tensor muscles
what does anterior(mostly motor) division of V3 give rise to? what do these supply or carry
- masseter nerve-> motor-masseter sensory-temporomandibular jt.
- deep temporal nerve-> motor- a&p branch supply temporalis
- lateral pterygoid n.->motor- lat. pterygoid muscle
- buccal n.->sensory-cheek and buccal gingivae of molars
