Trigeminal Nerve Flashcards
What is nervous spinosus
It’s actually a branch of mandibular division of 5 th nerve and it arises after exiting f.ovale but re enters skull thru f spinosum along with MMA and supplies meninges of ant and middle fossa
Sensory supply of cornea
First division of 5 th nerve, some evidence of upper part of cornea by the said above and lower part by second division of fifth nerve.. (maxillary nerve)
True or false…sensory supply of maxillary nerve is almost equal to zygomatic nerve
No it’s almost similar to distribution of infra orbital nerve
Angle of jaw is innervated by V3 of trigeminal nerve..true or false
It’s innervated by c2-3 by greater auricular nerve and hence the answer should be False..
Ganglia suppliied by fifth nerve
Otic
Sphenopalatine
Ciliary
Sub Maxillary
All muscles of mastication closes jaw except
Lateral pterygoid
All muscles protrudes jaw except
Temporalis
Tensor veli palatini does what
Closes nasopharynx from oropharynx while swallowing and thus avoids regurgitation in to nose
Match 1 Foramen ovale , 2 foramen rotundum,. 3Superior orbital fissure
- mandibular
- maxillary
- ophthalmic division
Mesencephalic nu deals with
Proprioception
Spinal nucleus deals with
Pain and temperature
Ballaclava distribution of sensory loss and it’s significance
The face is represented as concentric rings.ant face synapse rostrally in spinal tract nucleus which actually extends down till C4 .hind face caudally..so lesion at c2-3 may spare the anterior part of face like perioral region
Organic Sensory loss typically stops short of midline in trunk true or false
True ..due to overlap of sensory nerves
Organic Sensory loss typically stops short of midline in face true or false
False…less midline overlap in face
How to differentiate hyper reflexia due to high cervical lesion with generalized hyper reflexia
Look for jaw jerk..if it’s exaggerated.. generalized hyperreflexia
