Trigeminal nerve Flashcards
What are the 3 branches of trigeminal?
V1: opthalmic (Sensory information from the orbit)
V2: maxillary
V2: mandibular
Whats the pathway of V1?
Enters through superior orbital fissure and branches into 3:
- Frontal nerve
- Lacrimal Nerve
- Nasociliarry nerve
What does the frontal nerve of V1 branches into?
- Supraorbital nerve
2. Supratrochlear nerve
What is the branching pattern of the maxillary division?
- External surface of the left face
- Lateral wall of the nasal cavity
Where is the ptergopalatine (Sphenopalatine) ganglion found? what is its specific role?
-Found in the ptergopalatine fossa and it the connection between the split of V2 as well as a connecting pathway for innervation
What does V2 lateral zygomatic branches supply?
-Skin over temporal bones and zygomatic arch
What does the medial branch of V2 supply?
-Mucosa of nasal cavity
What does the nasopalatine nerve of V2 supply?
supplies the mucosa of the nasal septum
What branches of V2 and the ptergoid ganglion supply mucousal lining of the roof of the mouth
- Greater and lesser palatine nerves
- emerge through greater and lesser palatine foramne
Maxillary branch continues through to pass through the inferior orbital fissure? What does it branch into on the way?
- on the way it branches into alveolar branches that innervate the upper teeth and mucosal lining of the maxilla
- Then the branches goes through intraorbital foramen and terminates in palpibral, nasal and labial branches to supply cutanous innervation
