Triganometry Flashcards
What is the relationship between sin(X) and cos(X) ?
Sin(X) ² + cos(X)² =1
Express tan(X) in terms of sin(X) and cos(X)
Tan(X)= sin(X)
Cos(X)
What can tan(-X) also be expressed as?
-tan(X). This is also the same for sin.
What can cos(-60) be expressed as?
Cos(60)
What would a translation of y=tan(X-2) do?
Move a tan graph by 2 to the right. This is the same for all graphs.
What would a translation of y=3+cos(X) be
Move it up 3. This is the same for all graphs.
Would a translation of y= cos(2X) be?
It is a compression along the x axis. The Y values will stay the same but it gets twice as compressed.
What would a translation of Y= 3cos(X) be?
A stretch of 3 along the Y axis. The X values stay the same.
When using the quadrant rule, which areas mean what?
Top right=all
top left=sin
bottom left=tan
bottom right=cos
When you have a trigonometric equation, what must you try and do?
Use your knowledge of trigonometric identities to make all the functions the same in the equation.
What is the area of a triangle?
0.5 X a X b X sin C
When using the quadrant rule, where are the angles always measured from?
The x axis. Only an angle of 90 would meet the Y axis.
