Causes of tricuspid regurgitation

A
  • Pulmonary hypertension - COPD causes back pressure on right heart and blood forced back through tricuspid
  • Ebstein anomaly
  • Infective endocarditis
  • MI/ damage to heart muscle
  • Rheumatic heart disease
  • Right ventricular dilatation

What is Ebstein anomaly

A

Malformation of the tricuspid valve where leaflets are a lot lower down and we cannot create a full seal of the valve

A

RHF

What are the signs of TR

A

RHF:
- Fatigue
- Raised JVP
- Ascites
- Peripheral oedema
- Pulsatile hepatomegaly (may have splenomegaly too)

Left parasternal heave
Pansystolic murmur heard on left sternal border at 5th CC - carvallo sign where murmur gets louder on inspiration due to negative pressure in chest
