Tricuspid Valve Disease Flashcards
1
Q
Causes of tricuspid regurgitation
A
- Pulmonary hypertension - COPD causes back pressure on right heart and blood forced back through tricuspid
- Ebstein anomaly
- Infective endocarditis
- MI/ damage to heart muscle
- Rheumatic heart disease
- Right ventricular dilatation
2
Q
What is Ebstein anomaly
A
Malformation of the tricuspid valve where leaflets are a lot lower down and we cannot create a full seal of the valve
3
Q
What does TR progress to
A
RHF
4
Q
What are the signs of TR
A
RHF:
- Fatigue
- Raised JVP
- Ascites
- Peripheral oedema
- Pulsatile hepatomegaly (may have splenomegaly too)
Left parasternal heave
Pansystolic murmur heard on left sternal border at 5th CC - carvallo sign where murmur gets louder on inspiration due to negative pressure in chest
5
Q
How is TR managed
A
- Treat heart failure
- Repair valve
