Describe the life cycle of Trichuris spp.
A
- Adults in LI produce eggs
- Development to L1 in egg = L1 is infective
- L1 ingested, plugs on egg are digested and L1 is released
- L1 penetrates mucosal glands of the cecum
- Development from L1 - adult occur in these glands
- Adults emerge and their anterior ends are embedded in the mucosa
- PPP 6-12 weeks, depending on spp.
- Pathology - usually asymptomatic, but diptheric enteritis can occur
