What is an action/ postural tremor?
A tremor that occurs when a person maintains a position against gravity, such as holding the arms outstretched.
What is a kinetic tremor?
Tremor associated with any voluntary movement, such as moving the wrists up and down or closing and opening the eyes.
What are some clinical features of essential tremor?
Bilateral No other associated symptoms Postural tremor Affects arms, head, voice Relieved by alcohol
What are some clinical features of Parkinson disease tremor?
Unilateral Gait, rigidity, facial expression also affected Arms, legs, jaw affected Resting tremor Not relieved by alcohol
What are some treatments for essential tremor?
Beta-blockers
Primidone
AIprazolam
Deep brain stimulation
What are other features of PD?
MOTOR –> Tremor, bradykinesia, rigidity, postural instabilities
NON-MOTOR –> Cognitive impairment, Psychiatric
complications, Behavioural dysfunction, Sleep disturbance, Autonomic dysfunction
