naked seed- seed is surrounded by a cone- it is not encased

plants where the seed is encased in a protective covering (helicopters)

- edge is called the margin- smooth or toothed
- blade is the massive, flat thin part
- blade contains many veins- run to ends of leaf (Midrib: single vein running down the center of a leaf)

have 2 or more leaflets along a single stalk

twice pinnate, the primary leaflets are divided into secondary leaflets
hardwood
lose their leaves- are angiosperms
softwoods
have needles and bare cones- are evergreens or gymnosperms

- rounded lobes (2 deep sinuses)
