Treaty of Versailles Historiography Flashcards
R J Evans
The Treaty of Versailles caused feelings of rage and shock within the majority of Germany, where it had a major impact on the working class who were a part of the Social Democrats and was swaying them away from the party.
Martin Collier & Philip Pedley
The terms of the Treaty left Germany feeling disheartened and embarassed though were seen as signs of overreacting as the country as a whole was left appearing to be a united country with the ability to regain their previous status in regards to its power despite the treaty.
Colin Storer
The Germans believed that the Treaty was an unfair act of revenge against Germany by the Allies and was considered to be unfair and insulting to the whole image of the country and its pride.
Stephen Lee
The Treaty acted as a safeguard for the Allies against Germany, and as a way to restore France after the effects caused during the war. However, because of article 231, Germany saw itself as a victim as they were now excluded from world discussion even though they faced no harm in comparison to France.
