It was signed on 28th June 1919 in Versailles
What is the first condition that Germany had to face?
The Blame Cause 231- Germay had to accept blame and they hate it- lead to humiliation for Germans. Feel resentful
What is the second condition that Germany had to face?
The Loss of army/restrictions- they vulnerable to attack, stopping them going to war by restricting their army as they now have a tiny army. Can’t defend themselves. Army- 100,000 men, conscription - banned, Germany not allowed armored vehicles/submarines and Rhineland - demilitarized.
What is the third condition that Germany had to face?
Territorial changes: Germany’s overseas empire -taken away. Germany can’t join together with former ally Austria. The land they lost - vital farm land/used industry.
What is the fourth condition that Germany had to face?
Reparations- Germany pay £6.6billion to allies. They pay in annual installments which were 2% of Germany’s annual output. Germans protested it placed intolerable strain on economy which they were struggling to rebuild after war. Straight after war was over they had to pay money.
What is the fifth condition that Germany had to face?
Loss of land- economic impact is they lose the rich industrial lands which are given to Poland, Czech Slovakia and France. Social impact- families get split up.
