Urinalysis
Visual examination of the urinary bladder with the use of a specialized type of endoscope
Cystoscope
Medication given to increase urine secretion to rid the body of excess water and salt
Diuretic
A procedure used to remove waste products such as urea, creatinine and excess water from the blood of a patient whose kidneys no longer function
Dialysis
*waste products are filtered directly from the patients blood
* preformed by an external machine referred to as an artificial kidney
Hemodialysis
Not as common but can be done at home
peritoneal dialysis
surgical freeing of the kidney from adhesions
Nephrolysis
Placement of the catheter to maintain an opening from the pelvis of one or both kidneys to the exterior of the body
Nephrostomy
*also known as cathing
* insertion of a flexible plastic tube called a catheter into the bladder to withdraw urine
Urinary Catherization
- Used to describe some types of treatment for prostate cancer
- Involves removal of a body part or the destruction of its function
Ablation
