treatment planning for indirect fixed restorations Flashcards
Scaling
removal of supragingival calculus
root planing
debriding root surfaces with a curette
are mobile teeth always a sign of disease?
no, it may be a response to abnormal forces and it doesnt always need corrective treatment
biologic width definition
the dimension of soft tissue which is attached to the portion of the tooth coronal to the crest of alveolar bone
whats the average histological width of the connective tissue attachement?
1.07mm.
whats average epithelial length?
.97mm.
whats total average attachment?
2.04mm, this is the biological width
what would happen if you prepped a crown and the margin was within 1mm of the alveolar crest?
This would cause inflamation and the bone would resorb to restore the normal biological width length. this would be a good time to refer to a periodontist for crown lengthening.
before you send a pt to get crown lengthening, what should you do to the margin?
define it. Make sure the periodontist knows where you are placing the margin so he knows where to extend the crown to.
how much space is needed between an implant and tooth?
1.5mm
how much space is needed between 2 implants?
3mm.
what length is needed interocclussaly for proper implant placement?
6mm
how far above the adjacents tooths CEJ should the implant be?
2mm
whats a ferrule?
circumferential ring of sound tooth structure that is enveloped by the cervical portion of the crown restoration
whats the ferrule effect?
at the ferrule there needs to be a minimum of 1.5-2mm. of sound dentin height between the core( build up inside coronal structure were tooth is missing) and crown margins
