Treatment of CVS diseases, RAAS System Flashcards
THERE’S CLASSES OF ANTIHYPERTENSIVES
Describe them
- Indapamine
- Diuretics
- Angiotensin Inhibitors
- Direct Vasodilators
- Thiazide-like diuretics
- Calcium Channel Blockers
Describe the Agents, MOA, and A/E and C/I of ACE Inhibitors
Agents “-pril”
1. Enalapril
2. Captopril
3. Ramipril
Mech, of Action
Blocks conversion of Ang 1 to Ang 2
Reduces preload and afterload
Reduce Aldosterone
Block vasoconstriction.
A/E
1. Dry Cough
2. Angioedema
3. Metabolic Acidosis
4. Hyperkalaemia
Caution with Spironolactone
C/I
1. Pregnancy
2. Bilateral Renal Stenosis
Describe the Agents, C/I, A/E and MOA of Angiotensin Receptor Blockers
Agents
Valsartan/Losartan
MOA
Block the effect of Angiotensin 2 on Angiotensin type1 receptors
A/E- Same as for ACE Inhibitors, except DRY COUGH
**ARBs are preferred over ACE-I
What is the role of ARB/s and ACE-I in Heart Failure
- Reduce Preload
- Reduce Filling Pressure
- Decrease Vasoconstriciton
- Decrease Afterload
- Reduce Mortality by 35 percent
