How to treat a casualty throwing up
- Turn the casualty away from you. Balance them on their side. While making sure their head doesn’t hit the floor hard
- Ensure the mouth is open and turned towards the floor. Allow them to throw up
- When done clear any debris left in the mouth. Move them back, re establish air ways, then start CPR if necessary
How to treat a mild airway obstruction
Encourage them to cough it up. If ineffective it is severe

Reduce any tight clothing if appropriate
Try and calm down the casualties
Be prepared to start CPR

Keep them warm

Keep the casualty calm
Make them comfortable
Encourage and assist them to take their prescribed inhaler
If the situation gets worse call 999
What is the treatment of anaphylaxis
Find out if the casualty has their auto injector
Call 999 even if immediate improvement after first does
Keep them comfortable and assist them in any means necessary
Treatment for hyperventilation
Position the patient upright, loosen tight clothing if appropriate, and work with the casualty to control their breathing, ensure you take them to a quiet place and give them sips of water, if it is prolonged call 999

Clean with water
Dry with sterile dressing and apply plaster

To reduce swelling use an ice pack wrapped in a cloth or triangle bandage
Leave for no longer than 20 minutes

Lay or sit with the casualty

Don’t remove any object
Apply direct pressure and treat casualty for shock

Use tweezers to grab the splinter as closely as possible to the skin
Once it has been removed gently squeeze to allow it to bleed out, reduce the chance of infection
Cover with a dressing after cleaning and drying
