therapeutic care
treatment/care considered necessary to establish maximal improvement and medically stationary status
Passive care
application of treatment/care modalities by the caregiver to a patient, who passively receives care.
Active care
modalities of treatment/care requiring active involvement, participation and responsibility on the part of the patient.
Preventative are
treatment /car delivered to prevent the occurrence of injury or disease and promote optimal function. Chiropractors use the term maintenance care (sometimes inappropriately). example: Patients who have reached maximum therapeutic benefit (medically stationary), who’s trials of therapeutic withdrawal fail to sustain previous gains will deteriorate.
Supportive/maintenance care
treatment/care to prevent/reduce re-occurrence of illness and/or impairment.
Palliative care
Treatment/care delivered to relive the symptoms associated with an injury or illness but result in no net improvement in patients with underlying conditions. Delivered during periods of symptomatic aggravation as requested by patient (PRN)
