Traumatic dislocations Flashcards
What is a dislocation?
What is a subluxation?
Complete disruption of the joint
Partial dislocation- not fully out of joint
How do you diagnose dislocations
What else should be screened for when assessing a joint dislocation
Clinically and radiologically
associated injuries, soft tissue damage, MSK ,multi-system disease, neurovascular damage, pre/post treatment
How is a disclocation treated
What may occur after treatment
Emergency treatment
Surgery
Sequelae
Recurrent instaility, stiffness
What common dislocations occur at the shoulder?
What common dislocations occur at the elbow?
Anterior-Squared off (most common)
Posterior- locked in internal rotation
posterior- olecranon process posterior
Describe dislocation of the hip
Describe dislocation of the knee
Posterior- leg short, flexed, internal rotation, adduction
Anteroposterior-loss of normal contour, extended
Describe dislocation of the ankle
Describe dislocation at the subtalar joint
Lateral more common- externally rotated, prominent medial malleolus
Lateral more common- laterally displaced os.calcis
