Trauma Flashcards
OPSS
Overwhelming post-splenectomy sepsis
cause of air embolism
- chest tube intubation
- supraclavian vein opened (supraclavicular node biopsies, central venous line placement or line disconnected)
- craniotomy of enlargement angioma
mgmt air embolism
- cardiac massage
2. Trendelenburg position
fat embolism
seen in multiple long bone fractures and symp of respiratory failure
pulmonary embolus
seen in late postope after severals days of reduced mobility
tension pneumothorax
cause progressive hemodynamic shock and respiratory distress
medial meniscus tear
- result from twisting injuries with the foot fixed
- complain popping sound followed by severe pain at the time of injury
- examination reveals localized tenderness on the medial side of knee
bucket handle tears in meniscal tears
leads to locking of knee joint during terminal extension
McMurray’s sign
palpable or audible snap while slowly extending leg at the knee from full flexion while simultaneously applying tibial torsion
anterior cruciate ligament tear
- history of forceful hyperextension injury to knee or noncontact torsional injury of knee during deceleration
- effusion seen rapidly following injury
clinical diagnosis for anterior cruciate ligament tear
- Lachman’s test
- ant drawer test
- pivot shift test
posterior cruciate ligament injury
seen in dashboard injury refers to forceful post directed force on tibia with knee flexed at 90
clinical diagnosis for posterior cruciate ligament injury
- posterior drawer test
- reverse pivot shift test
- posterior sag test
medial collateral ligament injury
- abduction injury to knee
- valgus stress test
lateral collateral ligament injury
- very rare and seen in adduction injury to knee
- varus stress test
