Q

Scout: Oh! Hey there! Sorry to interrupt your camping trip. We were just looking for our friend… Bandit can be a little nervous sometimes. Don’t worry; I think these friends may be able to help. Do you mind helping us? Wait- do you know Ranger Theodore? You do? Are you… Junior Rangers by any chance?

A

What an honor! I’m so glad we have Junior Rangers here to help us! Any friend of Ranger Theodore’s is a friend of ours!

Q

Scout: Thank you for your service, Junior Rangers! Now for the task at hand- have you seen our friend Ringo? I know! Let’s play a game to find Ringo: Hot and cold! Here are the rules, when I’m close to Ringo, I want you all to say “hot!” but when I’m getting far away from Ringo, you say “cold!” Let’s do it. (adlib)

A

We did it! We found Ringo! Ringo’s sleeping! But Scout, how are we gonna wake Ringo up?

Q

Scout: I know! Ringo loves music! Maybe we can sing a song to wake Ringo up@

A

Yes! That’s a great idea! Singing is much nicer than shouting or poking our friends while they’re trying to sleep. What should Ringo’s special wake-up song be?

Q

Scout: Well, every good song has a beat, right?

A

Hmmmm. That was pretty loud, but it didn’t wake Ringo up. Can any of you tell me what the opposite of loud is?… That’s right, quiet! Maybe something quieter would work!

A

You guys sound so good! I just know this is going to work! Are we ready to try it?

WAKE UP RINGO, TIME TO RISE
THE SUN IS PEEKING THROUGH THE SKIES
WAKE UP RINGO TIME TO PLAY
SO STRETCH AND YAWN AND START YOUR DAY

A

Again! A little louder!

A

I SAID we should probably get out of here! Besides, you weren’t REALLY playing music, you were using those… pointy… people things… for music, but that’s not what they’re really for.

Q

Ohhhhh… marnmalloos! I think the Junior Rangers are right! Sometimes I see campers using these… stick thingies… like this. For cooking their marnmalloos! So they can eat them! Humans LOVE these things.

A

Ringo no, wait! We aren’t supposed to eat people food!

I like having fun too, but we have to be careful! I’m just trying to keep us safe and out of trouble.

A

Playing pretend! Cool! I had no idea. That really was a lot of fun. I can see why you wanted to keep playing.

Ringo: waves arms

A

Oh, I don’t know… What if it’s not as fun as Ringo’s idea? What if you don’t like it?

25
Q

Scout: Don’t worry about that! Just try it out. Do we think Bandit should give it a try? See?

A

Hmm… Okay… Ta da…

26
Q

Scout: That was so good, Bandit! Didn’t you all think Bandit did a great job?

A

Really?! Thanks. I didn’t know what to do at first, and I was worried you guys might… laugh at my idea.

27
Q

Scout: Laugh?

A

I don’t know. Ringo’s music idea was so fun and I thought maybe my idea wasn’t very good. I was scared you wouldn’t like my turtle shell.

28
Q

Scout: We loved your turtle shell! Some of my best friends are turtles. Plus, there’s nothing to feel scared of or embarrassed about. Everyone has different ideas, and that’s what makes playing pretend so much fun! We all get to try new things… That’s right, Ringo. We’re your friends and friends don’t laugh at each other’s ideas. All of your ideas are great because there’s no wrong way to use your imagination.

A

Thanks, guys. Playing pretend like this is really fun! I like trying new things together! Should we do another one?… Scanning for Ringo… scanning for Scout… target acquired! Buddies found! Beep boop! Scout, you come up with one now!

29
Q

Scout: Okay! Let’s use-wait, do you guys hear something?

A

Oh no! Ranger Theodore is making his rounds! I knew we should have left sooner.

30
Q

Scout: I’m sorry I didn’t listen to you, Bandit. I don’t want to get you in trouble. It was my fault.

A

Wait… we don’t have to run away! Playing pretend has been so fun… I don’t want to miss out because I’m scared. I want to stay and try something new and be brave… I’ve got it! We can play pretend so the Ranger won’t see us! We’ll pretend we aren’t here.

31
Q

Ranger: …Boss, you’re never going to believe what I just found…

A

Wow! It worked!

32
Q

Scout: That was amazing, Bandit! What a great idea!

A

Thanks! All this using our imaginations has made me feel a little more…brave.

33
Q

Scout: I love it! Bandit the Brave! You saved the day!

A

I can’t believe it worked. Before, I would have been too scared to think of a plan. But when we pretend together, it’s like we become superheroes, or musicians, or… well… trees!

34
Q

Scout: You’re braver than you think, Bandit! Pretending to be something else can help us be brave when we need it.

A

I think it can do more than that! Pretending lets us try out new ideas, solve problems, and work together with our friends. Hmmm… Scout, it’s your turn to go first!

35
Q

Scout: Oh! I know! But it’s a tricky one. I think we are going to need everyone’s help. Junior Rangers, where have our imaginations taken us now? AYE MATEYS THAT’S RIGHT! We are on a pirate ship AND THERE’S ROUGH WATERS AHEAD!!

A

Uh oh! A storm is coming! Hey friends, it’s your turn to play pretend with us! Let’s all work together to create some rain for our pirates’ storm! For this, we’re going to separate into groups. Can I have this group rub your hands together?

36
Q

Scout: That sounds just like rain! The storms comin’!

A

Okay, now this group over here - clap your hands!

37
Q

Scout: All hands on deck! Hoist the sails!

A

Last group over here - pat your lap! Now let’s put all the groups together! Whoa! What a great rainstorm! Now let’s all follow Ringo! When they hold their hands high, the storm needs to be as loud as possible, and when they hold their hands real low, the storm needs to be really quiet. Alright Ringo, take it away.

38
Q

Ringo is conducting

A

ad lib… Land ho!

39
Q

Scout: Great job using those powerful imaginations, Junior Rangers!

A

I think playing pretend is even more fun when we have so many friends to help us!

40
Q

Scout: Awesome teamwork! We really sailed the high seas, didn’t we?

A

And thanks to our friends, we braved the storm!

41
Q

Scout: We couldn’t have done it without all of you!

A

uhhh… guys? I hate to interrupt the fun again, but… we made quite a mess during our pirate adventure.

42
Q

Scout: You’re right… Ranger Theodore didn’t give us permission to play here, we should clean it up.

A

But how? There’s so much stuff! It’s everywhere! I don’t even remember where this goes! (start running around with paper towels, getting twisted in them, Ringo helps) Thanks Ringo.

43
Q

Scout: I know! One of us should be the lookout for Ranger Theodore- since I’m in charge, that should be me. Then you two put things back where we found them.

A

But Scout… that doesn’t seem fair…

44
Q

Scout: Why not? SOmeone has to be on the lookout.

A

Well- we all played with it! We should all clean it up.

45
Q

Scout: I don’t think that’s a good idea.

A

Scout!

46
Q

Scout: I’M in charge- I get to-

A

That’s not fair!

47
Q

start arguing

A

Start arguing

48
Q

Ranger: Hey hey hey! Raccoons! Break it up! What’s going on here?

A

continue arguing

49
Q

Scout: Working together does sound like it’ll be faster and fairer…

A

Oooh! I know! We’ve been using our imaginations all day- maybe we can. use them to clean up the campsite. Junior Rangers, can you help us? We need your help to get it all back in order!

50
Q

Ranger: Well, would you look at that! That wasn’t too bad. Everything looks perfect, just as I left it! I knew I could count on my Junior Rangers. You’ve all done an incredible job! But wait… Bandit, Scout, Ringo- what were you doing in my campsite without me?

A

We were pretending, and things got a little out of hand.

51
Q

Scout: And then I didn’t realize I was being unfair when we were trying to clean up - sorry Bandit. Sorry Ringo.

A

That’s okay!

52
Q

Ranger: Well, I’ll be! It sounds like you’ve been using your imaginations, playing together, and solving problems,=. That’s what being a good Junior Ranger is all about! But next time… you promise to tell me if you’re going to play pretend in my campsite?

A

We promise.

53
Q

Ranger: And can you promise to stay safe while playing pretend?

A

Promise!

54
Q

Song:
Let’s race a car
Or sail the sea
In the world of make believe
When you have friends
fun never ends
play all day
hip hip hooray

A

sing

55
Q

Scout: Yeah! On the count of three, let’s all give a bit “Junior Rangers!” Ready?

A

One…

56
Q

Scout: Two…

A

Three!

57
Q

Ranger: That was fantastic! Now, I’ve got to finish my rounds, but I’ll see you all next time. Keep using those imaginations, Junior Rangers!

A

Wait, Ranger Theodore! Do you want us to leave.

58
Q

Ranger: With all this creativity in the air? No way! Stay! Keep having fun. YOu and the Junior Rangers have shown you have everything under control.

A

We couldn’t have done it without all of you. Thanks for helping us today!
