Transverse Pulses Flashcards
Medium
Is a substance or material in which a pulse will move
Pulse
Is a single disturbance/vibration which moves through a medium
Transverse pulse
The displacement of the particles of the medium perpendicular to the direction of the movement
Amplitude
Maximum disturbance from its rest position(equilibrium position)
Pulse length
Distance between the start and end of a pulse
Pulse speed
Distance covered in one second (m.s to the power of 1)
Superposition
It is the addition of the amplitudes of two pulses that occupy the same space at the same time
Constructive interference
When the crest of two pulses meet each other on the same side of the rest position, resulting in a larger amplitude
Destructive interference
When the crest of one pulse and the trough of another pulse meet on opposite sides of the rest position, resulting in a smaller amplitude
