retrograde ejaculation - common
haemorrhage (primary, recreationary or secondary 2-10%)
clot retention
incontinence - rare
TUR syndrome - seizures or CVS collapse caused by hypovolaemia and hyponatraemia due to absorption pf glycine irrigation fluid
urinary infection
erectile dysfunction
haematospermia
hypothermia
infection, prostatitis
late: urethral stricture
indications for TURP
BPH
approx 12% need redoing in 8yrs
definition of TURP
electrocautery-mediated resection from within the prostatic urethra
removal of bits of an enlarged prostate gland through the urethra using a retroscope
post-op advice for TURP
avoud driving fior 2wk post op
avoid sex 2wk post
may be infertile
retrograde ejaculation - sperm flows back into the bladder, harmless but = cloudy urine
rarely orgasmic sensations are reduced
haematuria for the 1st 2 weeks
may have polyuria initially - in 6wks things get better
cant guarentee that it will work
if feverish or urination hurts - take urine sample to the doctor
