transtheoretical model Flashcards
1
Q
assumption two about change
A
- model recognises that change does not happen quickly so some stages many be missed out
1
Q
transtheoretical model
A
- devised to explain behavioural change to overcome addiction
2
Q
assumption one about change
A
- people change their addictive behaviour through a series of progressive changes
3
Q
assumption three about change
A
- people differ in how ready they are to change addictive behaviour
4
Q
assumption four about change
A
- how useful an intervention is depends the stage the client is currently in
5
Q
five stages
A
- precontemplation
- contemplation
- preparation
- action
- maintenance
6
Q
precontemplation
A
- not thinking about changing their behaviour in the near future because of denial or demotivation (tried before and failed)
7
Q
contemplation
A
- considering changing their behaviour in the next six months, but doesn’t mean they decided to change
- aware they need to change but are aware of the costs (less enjoyment)
8
Q
preparation
A
- believes that the benefits of change outweigh the costs, so they decide to change their behaviour sometime within the next month
9
Q
action
A
- have done something to to change their behaviour in the last six months
- action must substantially reduce their risk
10
Q
maintenance
A
- has maintained a change for more than six months
- more confident that the change can be continued in the longer tern because it becomes a way of life
11
Q
strength (eval)
A
- views behaviour change as a dynamic process and emphasised the importance of time
12
Q
weakness (eval)
A
- other health models may better explain behavioural change
- e.g: viewing self efficacy was a motivator to change
