Transport systems Flashcards
difference between open and closed circulatory systems
.Closed-carry blood in veins and arteries
Open-Blood is pumped into the body cavity
Explain two chambered, three chambered, four chambered heart and how blood flows through each
Compare advantages and disadvantages
Two: One atrium, one ventricle, gill capillaries-oxygenaated blood to body capillaries-non oxygenated blood to heart where it goes through atrium, ventricle
+more pressure to pump blood around the system
-
Three-Non oxygenated blood pumps to lungs-then heart-oxygenated blood goes to body-to the heart
-mixes blood, only half oxygenated
Four-oxygen poor blood to heart-to lungs–oxygen rich blood to heart-to body
+seperation of oxygenated anddeoxygenated blood
-
Explain gills, human lungs, and bird lungs
Gills-oxygen comes in through gills-blood inside capillaries picks up oxygen-circulatory transports oxygen to body-carbon dioxide removed through gills
Human lungs-diaphragm contracts downwards bringing air into the lungs-carbon dioxide brought back to lungs where it is exhaled\
Bird lungs- through trachea into rear air sacs-from air sacs to lungs-from lungs to front air sacs-from front air sacs back to trachea and out
Why do herbivores have a more complex digestive system than carnivores
More difficult to digest vegetation than meat
how is a rabbit’s digestive system different than a cow’s, compare both to a carnivore’s
Rabbit-mouth into stomach-nurients absorbed in small intestines-to colon-to caecum breaks down fibre-excreted as cecotropes which are reingested-go through small intestines-excreted as faecal droppings
Cow-through esophagus to rumen-changes into protein-reticulum removes waste-up through esophagus rechewed-omasum absorbs water-abomasum-small intestine-lage intestine
Human-esophagus-stomach-small intestine-large intestine
