Transport Systems Flashcards
What is diffusion?
movement of molecules from a higher concentration to a lower concentration
What is osmosis?
movement of water from a higher concentration to a lower concentration
How do humans receive oxygen?
through breathing
How does breathing occur?
oxygen from the air will go to the alveoli and diffuse into the bloodstream
What is the circulatory system comprised of?
heart, blood, blood vessels
What is the heart made up of?
left atrium, right atrium, left ventricle, right ventricle, aorta, pulmonary arteries, and septum
What blood does the left side pump?
oxygenated
What blood does the right side pump?
deoxygenated
What are blood vessels comprised of?
veins, arteries, capillaries
What color is the vein in diagrams?
blue
What color is the artery in diagrams?
red
Why do veins have valves?
to keep blood moving in one direction
What is blood made up of?
plasma, WBC, RBC, platelets
What does plasma carry?
nutrients, waste, etc.
What are the 2 circulations?
systemic and pulmonary
