What is root pressure?

A

Water moves into xylem in roots, hydrostatic pressure increases.
Water forced up xylem by hydrostatic pressure.

What is the transpiration pull?

A

Water molecules held together by cohesion.
Creates long continuous column of water.
As water evaporates put stomata it creates tension.
Tension pulls column up the plant.
Called Cohesion-Tension theory.
