Transport Of Carbon Dixoide Flashcards
1
Q
Transport of Carbon Dioxide
A
CO2 is released from respiring tissue and must be removed and transported to the lungs for excretion. It is transported in 3 ways:
1. 5% is dissolved directly into the plasma.
2. 10% is combined directly with haemoglobin to form carbaminohaemoglobin (not
carboxyhaemoglobin).
3. 85% is transported in the form of hydrogencarbonate ions (HCO3-).
