Transport in the body Flashcards
What are the 4 parts of blood
plasma, red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets
What colour is plasma
It is a pale yellow colour
Whats plasma mostly maid of
Water
What does plasma transport
Dissolved chemicals such as food, water and wastes such as carbon dioxide and salts.
It also transports heat around the body.
It carries red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets
Where are red blood cells made
Bone marrow located in the centre of the bones
How is haemoglobin made
With iron
Where is haemoglobin
Red blood cells
What does red blood cells carry
oxygen, haemoglobin
Where does oxygen enter the blood
The lungsW
Where is white blood cells made
Bone marrow
What do white blood cells fo
They fight infection
Where are platelets formed
In bone marrow
What do platelets do
Clot the blood, prevents loss of blood and microorganisims entering the body
What are the three main types of blood vessel
artery, vein, capillaries
What size is the heart
the size of a clenched fist
What are the 3 parts of the heart
chambers, septum, heart valves
How many chambers are there in the heart
4
How are the 4 chambers of the heart disected
the two top ones are right and left atrium and the bottom 2 are right and left ventricle
What is the septum
The two sides of the heart are seperated by a muscular wall called the septum
What are valves
valves in the heart make sure that blood can flow in only one direction
Where does the blood from around the body enter the heart
Right atrium through the vena cava, this is low in oxygen
What does the right ventricle do
Pumps blood from the heart to the lungs
